Hi Friend,
As the new president of the Human Rights Campaign, I’m honored to be working alongside you to achieve full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people.
To succeed in our mission we need to elect a president who will represent ALL people.
Our community, and our country, cannot afford four more years of Donald Trump and Mike Pence, which is why the Human Rights Campaign is committing everything we’ve got to ensuring victory at the ballot box next year.
That’s why I’m so excited to tell you that the Human Rights Campaign Foundation is partnering with CNN on a live town hall –– where some of the 10 million LGBTQ voters across America will have the opportunity to ask the Democratic presidential candidates directly about how they’ll work to achieve equality for our community. Our Power of Our Pride Presidential Town Hall will be broadcast live during primetime on CNN & CNN en Español on October 10, the eve of National Coming Out Day. And we want to hear from you!
Our town hall will be the first time in history that any major cable news network has broadcast a presidential town hall dedicated to LGBTQ issues — and it comes at a crucial time in our fight for equality.
Today, in 30 states, LGBTQ people remain at risk of being fired, evicted or denied services because of who we are. In 35 states, our youth still face the threat of “conversion therapy.” We are fighting the rise of hate violence targeting transgender women of color and this administration’s attacks on transgender troops, healthcare services for people living with HIV, and attempts to erase us from protections under law.
This is our opportunity to learn more about how the Democratic candidates will take on these issues and more that affect our community. We want to hear from you! What questions do you have? What issues do you want to see addressed at our historic town hall?
Our community is diverse and vibrant, strong and determined — and I want you to know that I am in this fight for each and every one of us. Your feedback is always appreciated –– starting with what you hope to hear at our upcoming town hall.
The Human Rights Campaign’s grassroots electoral work is rapidly gearing up now, and we promise to keep you updated every step of the way.
In Unity,
