Last weekend, a shooter in Odessa, Texas, murdered seven people and injured 25 more.

He failed a background check when he first tried to purchase a gun. But because of a loophole in our system, he was still able to buy a rifle from a private seller – and then devastate an entire community.

Yet the Senate still refuses to pass lifesaving legislation ​like background checks and extreme risk protection orders to prevent future tragedies like this. Now that senators are back from their summer vacation, we need to put the pressure on immediately to urge them to finally ​make these issues a priority. The price of inaction is more precious lives like the ones lost in Odessa.
