Trump's SCOTUS pick could threaten workers' rights for years to come

Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee began confirmation hearings for President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court.

Under the Trump Administration, Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have been laser-focused on appointing right-wing extremists to the courts. They’ve confirmed 200 judges.

Now after months of refusing to take action on coronavirus relief legislation Americans desperately need, Trump and McConnell want to rapidly install another corporate special-interest justice to the Supreme Court. If they succeed, it would pose a serious threat to workers’ and labor rights for millions of Americans.

Here’s why:

  • With the help of dark money, Republicans have mounted legal challenges to workers’ rights and their ability to fight for fair working conditions, wages, and benefits.
  • Trump-nominated judges have a track record of being anti-labor and undermining unions.
  • The current iteration of the Supreme Court -- which Trump has pushed right with two new justices -- has a pro-corporation bias that prioritizes profits over workers.

Voters in Ohio and around the country are already casting their ballots. They should have a say in who will be the next Supreme Court justice who will make major decisions that will affect their lives for years to come.

We must not fill the Supreme Court vacancy until the American people make their voices heard in the upcoming election. If you agree, please add your name to mine.

With gratitude,

Sherrod
