Someone brought to my attention an article I had written back in 2016 about how Venezuela had declared a "nutritional emergency" because the country was out of food. In the article, I outlined how they'd gotten to that point.

When I re-read it, I was pretty shocked myself.

You may notice some uncanny similarities in this side-by-side comparison of the collapse of Venezuela and the current situation in the United States.


Our scenario is certainly not identical to the crisis in Venezuela, but there are enough similarities that you should be very uncomfortable with our situation.  Does reading this give you a sense of deja vu? Please share your thoughts on this in the comments.
