One year ago today, I launched my campaign to flip WI-07 blue.

While a lot has changed since October 2019, the issues we’re fighting for have stayed the same.

I’m running for Congress because I want to deliver on lowering the cost of prescription drugs, expanding our healthcare, protecting our climate, fixing our broken criminal justice system, and so much more. And our pandemic reality has shown that now more than ever, we need leaders who will put the people first.

Today, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, I am reaffirming my promise to be a big voice and work hard for the people of Wisconsin if I am elected to Congress on November 3.

I’m Tricia Zunker, and yesterday, on Indigenous Peoples' Day, I announced my campaign to represent Wisconsin’s seventh district in Congress.

I am a first-generation college graduate, a single parent to a beautiful boy, and an Associate Justice on the Ho-Chunk Supreme Court. I was born and raised in a strong union household in Wausau and come from a family of hard workers.

My dad worked as a laborer with special carpentry skills, and my mom still works at Graphic Packaging in Wausau. My mom has been a union member of USW-Local 2-244 for over thirty years and served as union secretary for over ten years. My grandpa was a farmer who worked on his farm until his body could no longer do farm work -- and that kind of persistence is exactly what defines us Northern Wisconsinites.

Like many Wisconsinites across our district, I’m fed up with the division and inaction that has resulted from a tradition of broken politics. I’m fed up with being ignored by our representation in Congress.

And I’ve made the decision to do something about it.

I’m running to represent WI-7 in the House of Representatives to challenge a broken system that ignores everyday, working people. And I will work hard every day to bring a strong Northern Wisconsin voice to Washington.

After graduating from college, I went to law school and became a practicing attorney and law professor. In 2013, I was elected to serve my People, the Ho-Chunk Nation, as an Associate Justice of the Ho-Chunk Supreme Court.

In 2018, I was elected to the Wausau School Board where I currently serve as the Board President. On the school board, I work hard to ensure that all children receive a good education, regardless of background, economic status, or family circumstances.

For the communities I currently serve and for the people of Wisconsin’s seventh district, I want the same thing: that everyone who is willing to work hard should get a fair shake at a good life with opportunities, stable income, and a community fit to raise a family in.

Like many Wisconsinites, I’ve watched the systems and the people that were supposed to lift us up actually hold us down. I’ve watched as communities get ignored and families get left behind.

But like many Wisconsinites, I’ve also seen what happens when we come together. And I’ve seen what we can accomplish when we have a government that works for us, not against us.

I know what Wisconsin Strong looks like, and I’m ready to bring that to Washington.

I’m ready to fight to protect coverage for people with pre-existing conditions. I’m ready to fight to revitalize our farming community that has been hit hard by tariffs. And I’m ready to fight to preserve the natural beauty of our district for our children and our grandchildren.

I’ve always been a hard worker, and I’m ready to work for our families, our communities, our farmers, our small businesses, our unions and our environment. Together I know we can flip this seat and put our government back to work for the people of Wisconsin.
