Dear John,

Since my first day in Congress, my top priority has been to expand access to and lower the cost of health care and prescription drugs. Everywhere I go in North Texas, so many tell me that health care is their main concern. A new report using U.S. Census data stated that many North Texas cities like Garland and Dallas have some of the highest uninsured rates in the country. And as we navigate this pandemic with historic job losses leading to loss of health care for many North Texas families, it’s clear we have a serious crisis on our hands.

That is why this week I again called on Texas to expand Medicaid, and for the Administration and the Senate to come to the table to expand health care coverage and lower costs. If Texas were to expand Medicaid, nearly a million Texans would have health care coverage. North Texans need more health care, not less, and I’ve been working to do everything I can to expand access and lower costs across the board.

In June, I helped pass the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act, a bill that would lower costs, secure protections for people with pre-existing conditions, negotiate lower drug prices and expand coverage.

I’ve also led the charge to protect the Affordable Care Act in court, and voted to lower prescription drug costs and protect those with pre-existing conditions. Our work is not finished and we must come together to tackle this issue, especially during this pandemic. I again urge the Administration to drop its harmful lawsuit looking to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and come to the table to work with Congress to help more people get access to the care they need.
