Join NOlympics LA, Black Lives Matter LA, and Stop LAPD Spying Coalition on Wednesday, 10/21 at 7pm for a virtual town hall. We'll break down how the proposed LA28 Olympics are fundamentally incompatible with the fight to reimagine public safety and the struggle for racial justice.

Sixteen Thousand Dollars — Film Screening and Q&A

Image

TODAY, Monday, October 12th @ 6:00PM-7:30PM

Sixteen Thousand Dollars is a narrative comedy short film that imagines a world in which a struggling black college grad wakes up to find that reparations have finally been paid to descendants of slaves in America. With this new found capital, they will decide how best to spend their reparations, totaling a mere $16,000. Receiving reparations opens up old wounds of slavery, Jim Crow, and systematic oppression.
On Monday October 12th, we welcome you to attend a screening and discussion on reparations and Q&A in conjunction with the DSA Afrosocialists & Socialists of Color Caucus and YDSA. The film will be screened during this event.

Political Education Facilitator Training

Image

Tuesday, October 13th @ 6:00PM-7:30PM

The Facilitator Training, hosted by the Political Education Committee, will teach you techniques for leading groups discussions, both online and in person.

The key questions that will be answered by this training are:

• Why is political education important?
• What is the role of the facilitator?
• What are concrete tools to facilitate?
• How can I address common roadblocks to a conversation that flows?

The skills and tools covered in this training are applicable in any meeting where participants will be discussing new ideas, so we welcome anyone interested in learning more about facilitation.

Participants are encouraged to read through this short article on the importance of Political Education before the training.

Class on Class Part 2: Surplus Value and Exploitation

Image

Tuesday, October 15th @ 6:00PM-7:30PM

The DSA Los Angeles Political Education Committee is proud to present The Class on Class! This study series examines a selection of foundational concepts and inquiries, with the goal of more deeply grounding our collective struggle in rigorous socialist analysis. The Class is comprised of four individual yet interconnected modules — each featuring a selection of readings and discussion questions, as well as  a presentation followed by opportunity to discuss, dissect & debate these concepts.
Our second module, Surplus Value and Exploitation, will focus on our role as workers in which we survive by selling our time and our labor to the capitalist class. All attendees are encouraged, but not required, to read the associated module texts in our class reader which can be found here.

DSA-LA x Helltrap Nightmare Presents: Konstantine Anthony for Burbank City Council

Image

Thursday, October 15th @ 7:30PM-9:00PM

We’re facing unprecedented times. Konstantine is running for city council because it’s time for an unprecedented leader. Let’s build a solidarity movement of working-class Burbankers to enact a sweeping progressive agenda and make the real changes that all of us deserve.
What better way to build solidarity than to laugh at the state of things as we build towards a coalition fighting for a better Burbank!
