Updates from OH15

Working Together to Find Common-Sense Solutions

I appreciated the opportunity to visit the Wilmington Rotary Club, pictured above. After providing a brief legislative update on current happenings in Congress, we discussed ways to further support veterans, improve healthcare, and boost economic development. Specifically, we discussed the benefits of service dogs for treating mental health. As a Brigadier General, I have heard many veterans share the positive impact dogs have made to their overall well-being. Soon, I hope to reintroduce legislation that will allow veterans to train service dogs for mental health treatment.

Combating the Addiction Epidemic

Pictured above, I hosted my seventh annual Opiate and Addiction Roundtable to further the conversation on ways we can continue the fight against this epidemic. These conversations continue to bring together people from law enforcement, health care, state and local government, and community organizations, all of which are dealing with the devastating effects of addiction. It is imperative we find innovative solutions on preventative measures, treatment, rehabilitation, housing and employment for those battling addiction.

Discussing Meaningful Asylum Reform

I recently held a roundtable to talk with refugees about the asylum process. I appreciated the opportunity to hear from all who participated; they displayed tremendous courage by sharing their stories. Each person expressed a desire to contribute to America and lead a fulfilling life with their families. That is why I'll continue to push for bipartisan solutions to alleviate the backlog facing asylum seekers.

Touring the New Hocking Hills Welcome Center

Recently, I was able to visit the new Hocking Hills Welcome Center in Logan, pictured above. The new site will further the economic possibilities for the region, offer recreation for the whole family, and provide a beautiful common space for the community to enjoy. I supported S.47, the Natural Resources Management Act, which was signed into law, to improve public lands, natural resources, and water in Ohio and nationwide. This bipartisan legislation will directly invest in improving public lands management, protecting treasured landscapes, and increasing public access for recreation for areas like Hocking Hills.

I always appreciate having the opportunity to hear from constituents about the issues they are concerned about. If you would like to share your perspective, please call my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 225-2015, my Hilliard office at (614) 771-4968, my Lancaster office at (740) 654-2654, or my Wilmington office at (937) 283-7049.
