We're buckling down on two things: #1 stopping this nomination, and #2 taking back the Senate

Hey Indivisibles,

Meagan here with an update on the Supreme Court.

Tomorrow the Senate Judiciary Committee is set to begin confirmation hearings for Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Amy Coney Barrett. This has been a whirlwind process so far, so here’s a recap:

  • First: After RBG’s death, Republicans broke with their own precedent and insisted on forcing a replacement through before the election, taking away any say the American people have in who sits on the court -- even though they were all too happy to block President Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland, back in 2016.
  • Then: Sixteen days ago, Donald Trump hosted a superspreader party to announce Barrett’s nomination, where GOP leaders and their supporters mingled unmasked, likely leading to dozens of cases of COVID-19 including three Republican senators (two of whom sit on the Judiciary Committee), not to mention Trump himself.
  • TOMORROW: Despite the health risks and the unrelenting hypocrisy, GOP leadership is insisting on holding confirmation hearings, endangering their own lives and the lives of everyone around them in their blind pursuit of confirming a justice who we know will overturn the Affordable Care Act and criminalize abortion and reproductive healthcare.

It makes me exhausted just thinking about it.

But now is no time to be exhausted. Here at Indivisible, we’re staying hydrated and buckling down on two things: #1 stopping this nomination, and #2 taking back the Senate. Here’s what’s up:

  • We invested an emergency $20,000 to drive calls to persuadable senators to demand they vote NO on Barrett.
  • We’re adding hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund our peer-to-peer texting program, mobilizing voters nationwide to ensure they get to the polls.
  • We’re expanding our direct campaign support program to get funds into the hands of the candidates who need it most.
  • All told, if we can raise the funds, we’re planning to invest $1.6 million more than expected to ensure we can take back the Senate and protect the future of the Supreme Court.

I know in moments like this, it’s easy to feel hopeless. But Indivisibles built the Blue Wave in 2018 -- we know how to win tough fights. But we can only do it if we have the funds. Before the hearings start, can you make a $10 donation to fund our Supreme Court work, take back the Senate, and empower all the crucial work we’re doing this month?

This year has thrown so many unexpected crises at us -- and I’ve been proud at how this movement has responded every single time. Now we have to step up once again, for the good of our democracy and our people. I'm so grateful for your support.

In solidarity,
Meagan Hatcher-Mays
