Hello,

In a nation where millions of Americans can still be fired for being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or queer, coming out is still represents a substantial risk.

Today, on National Coming Out Day, someone you care about may come out to you for the first time. In that moment, they'll be filled with a range of emotions -- from joy to fear -- and they'll be counting on you for love and acceptance.

However, it's not enough only to hold close the LGBTQ+ people in our own lives. Last week, Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito made it clear they wish to reverse the Obergefell decision, which made marriage equality the law of the land. We should not wait for a new court to decide the rights of LGBTQ+ Americans -- we have a duty to pass federal legislation now and defend these rights for good.

It's time for federal legislation to end discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans. Show you're standing with me by adding your name >> [link removed]

We don't have to wait and see whether the next Supreme Court nominee will rule in favor of discrimination -- we can pass a federal law that explicitly bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity immediately.

Long before this latest fight, I co-sponsored the Equality Act, and asked my colleagues to join me in taking action. The House has already passed this critical piece of legislation, and now we need to build support in the Senate to defend civil rights before the next court has the chance to strike them down.

By showing your support for the Equality Act, you can help provide the momentum to ensure that LGBTQ+ Americans no longer face the threat of being fired for coming out and living as they are.

Add your name now and say: "It's time to end discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans." >> [link removed]

Thank you,

Bob Casey

P.S. If you've decided to come out today, I want you to know that I support you, I will stand with you, and I will fight for you. Be strong, and be you.
