Dear John,
Have the Oak Creek coal fired generating plants affected your health or the health of someone you know?

What is the impact of the emissions?

In addition to the green house gases that increase global warming there are local health impacts concentrated around the plants that reach out 10s of miles. Add to that the impact on people's health of acquiring and transporting the coal.

Join us this Tuesday when we'll screen the documentary We Neighbors followed by Dr. Santo Tomas' presentation on the Health Hazards of Coal Plants. Then join the discussion with Dr. Santo Tomas and Tom Rutkowski.

Since joining Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2002, Dr. Santo Tomas has led teams tasked to improve patient care and outcomes for hospital and clinic patients. Though he sees a wide variety of respiratory diseases, colleagues in pulmonary medicine have particularly sought his assistance and second opinion on patients with work-related lung disease, interstitial lung disease and pulmonary complications in hematopoietic stem cell transplant patients. He has been voted by his peers to the Best Doctors list every year since 2005.

We Neighbors is a 20 minute documentary that explores the impact on the people living in the shadow of their industrial neighbor - the Oak Creek, Wisconsin electric power plants operated by We Energies. The film was produced by Tom Rutkowski, Chair of the Sierra Club’s Southeast Gateway Group, and Natalie Chulew.

"For years, a small handful of neighbors have been making baseless accusations related to our operations in Oak Creek. We take both our environmental and community responsibilities very seriously." Brendan Conway, We Energies spokesman
