I’m writing to you today because I want to talk about what’s considered
the MOST important District Attorney race happening in our country right
now.

In just 24 days, we have an opportunity to replace Los Angeles DA Jackie
Lacey with reform champion George Gascón.

Los Angeles has the nation’s largest jail system — and under Jackie’s
policies, the cycle of police brutality and systematic oppression has
reached a breaking point. For a long time, lots of folks didn’t think
George had a chance to overturn this entrenched system. But these last few
months have exposed and amplified the social and political inequalities
that have plagued Los Angeles for decades.

Now, the race is only a couple weeks away and George has a REAL chance to
win this. This race has now become a litmus test for the strength of our
reform movement. We need EVERYBODY to show up and vote for George.

George has the experience and the determination Los Angeles desperately
needs.

Under the current DA, Los Angeles has faced lack of police accountability
for brutalizing communities as well as opposition to key reforms such as
ending cash bail, legalizing marijuana and repealing the death penalty.
Under Lacey’s leadership, Los Angeles sentenced more people to death than
any other county in the country – all people of color.

With George in office, we can count on him to dedicate his work to end
mass incarceration, hold police accountable and divest money to the people
instead of back into the broken institutions that incessantly
disenfranchise the Black and brown communities of Los Angeles County.
