Congress is back in session this week and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) warned Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) that there would be "hell to pay" if Republicans don't pass more laws to restrict gun rights for law-abiding citizens.
Sadly, Senator McConnell has pledged to devote Senate floor time to consider new control measures even though they won't stop criminals from breaking the law.
The truth is that Republicans will likely suffer significant political consequences if they undermine the freedom and security of law-abiding Americans. Such action will only depress conservative voters and reduce the number that show up to vote Republican next year.
Please urge your representatives to defend our Second Amendment rights and to oppose all efforts to undermine them.
“The right to bear arms is not about hunting,” Ben Domenech of The Federalist wrote recently. "It is a natural right of the deepest significance to the relationship between the citizen and the state. It is in the Constitution because the men who defeated the greatest empire in the world wanted us to be able to defend our freedom."
This is why we must speak out now!
The media loves to focus on gun violence when it can be used to argue for more government power, but when these acts of violence frequently occur in places with the strictest gun laws like Chicago and Los Angeles, they go unreported.
Passing more gun laws will never address the root cause of most acts of gun violence, which is a culture that lacks strong fathers. There are solutions to these cultural problems, but undermining our freedoms is not one of them.
