The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is considering withholding funds that would clean contaminated land and drinking water in places such as Seattle, Portland, New York City and Washington, D.C.
Why? Because Trump issued an executive order seeking to block federal funds from so-called “anarchist” jurisdictions — places that have resisted his destructive federal policies and actions in order to protect their communities and environment.
This move would defund things such as lead testing of school water systems and cleaning up contaminated land. We can’t — and won’t — let a Trump fit of temper endanger our children.
Food & Water Action is preparing immediate action through every means possible — organizing, legal strategies and advocacy on Capitol Hill — to stop Trump and the EPA from endangering public health and water. By speaking up loudly now, we can stop this effort before it gets any farther.
Will you chip in today and make an emergency donation to support our campaign against contaminated land and drinking water?
EPA’s mission is to protect human health and the environment. Trump’s move to defund EPA’s work in cities across the country flies in the face of science and reason, and will harm tens of millions of people — all for political theater by Trump and his friends.
EPA Administrator (and former fossil-fuel lobbyist) Andrew Wheeler is required by law to provide Drinking Water State Revolving Fund assistance to states for projects serving communities that need the most help addressing water quality problems. The EPA is also required to prioritize grants for testing for lead-contaminated water to schools and childcare centers serving low-income areas. Access to clean water shouldn’t be a political ploy. Too many people across the country are suffering the consequences of the Trump administration’s inhumane decisions:
Limiting the role of science and medical data in decision making — putting the lives of millions at risk now and for years to come;
Gutting the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), one of our most fundamental environmental laws;
Rolling back the Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule with a weaker one allowing the destruction of rivers and wetlands and threatening the drinking water of 117 million Americans.
These are only a few of the most recent policies the Trump administration has implemented. And now, the EPA is threatening to withhold funds to clean contaminated land and drinking water, simply out of political spite.
