Dear John,

Over the past eight months of representing you in Congress, the issue I’ve heard most about is the high price of health care and the lack of access for North Texans. That’s why I recently held a health care roundtable in Garland, where I was able to hear from health experts from around our region as well as the personal stories of North Texans. 

Rob and Debbie of Rowlett shared how the Affordable Care Act helped them get insurance, and Shane from Garland, who has diabetes, shared how the high cost insulin is impacting her. I also heard from health care leaders and experts representing health care facilities like the North Texas VA and Parkland Hospital.

We spoke about a wide range of topics including prescription drug costs, transportation to hospitals and clinics, the maternal mortality crisis in Texas, and the bipartisan effort I am leading to bring a VA clinic to Garland. I am grateful for the discussions we had and I look forward to working with them on these issues.

Since the day I was sworn in, health care has been a top priority for me. I have been leading the charge to protect your care by introducing measures to defend the Affordable Care Act in court and condemn this Administration’s attacks on our health care, both of which passed the House with bipartisan support. 

I have also co-sponsored common sense legislation that will strengthen our health care system while protecting those with pre-existing conditions and lowering prescription drug costs, which are skyrocketing, as evidenced in my report on the high cost of insulin. In addition, I have introduced bipartisan legislation to make sure breast cancer diagnostic tests are covered by insurance.

I am dedicated to ensuring all North Texans have access to high quality, affordable care and I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support legislation that will protect your health care.
