Friend,
No child should go hungry in the richest country in the world, but for the 22 million students who rely on free or reduced-price school meals, school closures caused by the pandemic exacerbated the threat of food insecurity.
That is why Ilhan sponsored and helped pass the MEALS Act, a bill that allows the USDA to grant waivers to school districts and nonprofit partners to provide access to meals to every child who needs them -- whether schools are open or not.
The Department of Agriculture has not committed to funding waivers past the end of the calendar year, putting subsidized school meal programs -- and our children's health -- in jeopardy. For too many students across the nation, school meals are the only consistent ones, so we can't let them down.
Will you add your name next to Ilhan's to demand the Department of Agriculture extend school meal assistance through the 2021 school year?

In the middle of a pandemic that has caused record unemployment, the Trump administration's inaction will continue to hurt families and increase childhood hunger rates across America.
