Hi there, A publication backed by millions in corporate money went after us this week, attacking me, our campaign, and its volunteers with inflammatory allegations from anonymous sources. Now we need your help to show what this campaign is actually about: a grassroots movement. Unlike Berkeleyside, which published two negative articles about us without even checking with us for comment, journalists like Pulitzer Prize winner Glenn Greenwald and Vox co-founder Ezra Klein have spent hours of time with me and others volunteering on this campaign, interacting with the dog I rescued from a meat farm in my own home. Grammy-award winning musician Moby, a decades long progressive activist, has done multiple campaign events promoting our vision and has seen the grassroots organizations I’ve built firsthand. And documentary maker Nelufar Hedayat has been out with me on the frontlines challenging climate-destroying industries–and come out as one of our biggest supporters. All their stories–and their experiences with me–are featured in this new podcast. And I’m asking you to listen and share because it’s important for us to challenge corporate lies with the truth. I am not a criminal or extremist; I am a citizen called to action by our planetary crisis. And our campaign is not “cultic”; it’s a democratic movement of ordinary people fighting together to make change. It’s no accident that these attacks are coming out right as voting begins. So I have one last request. We are trying to raise $2000 by Monday at noon to put out a final piece of direct mail to counter these smears with the truth. We are only taking $50 maximum donations, and every Berkeley resident gets us a 6x match. Can you or a friend contribute $50 today? - Wayne PS We’re hosting a Town Hall on Sunday at 11 am for anyone who has questions for the campaign, especially in the wake of these false attacks. Here's the link to join. Feel free to share with your friends, as people will be welcomed to ask me anything! |
