Prayer Partner Weekly Update
October 10, 2020

"He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he."

– Deuteronomy 32:4

Africa & Europe

  • This week we ask you to join us in praising God for a huge step forward in the class-action lawsuit that IJM Kenya helped bring against police, demanding greater accountability. One of the requests in the petition has been granted, and the court has ordered the Inspector General to investigate 22 cases of police killings that were documented and presented as part of this petition. This case is important because it shows that the Kenyan government can be held accountable for the actions of its officers.

Latin America

  • Pray for our team in El Salvador as they continue to work with partners to study current legislation in order to improve access to justice for victims of violence. Improving laws can improve the lives of many who suffer violence, primarily by providing better definitions of the crimes. For example, right now Intimate Partner Violence is not considered a crime in El Salvador unless other aggravating conditions exist; our team and partners are working to propose changes, ultimately to show new ways to support victims and better protect women who experience this type of violence. Please pray for wisdom and good communication as our team carries out this initiative.

South Asia

  • Praise God for a successful rescue operation this week led by one of IJM's grassroots partners. This NGO discovered a group of 24 people (including 10 children) who had been enslaved at a brick kiln for about four years. They have experienced years of physical abuse and had tried to escape several times, but the kiln owners kept them under tight control. Our partner was able to rally local authorities to rescue them at last on Wednesday. Please pray for the ongoing follow-up with the government and for restorative aftercare as these families return home for the first time.

Southeast Asia

  • Praise God for two convictions in the Philippines in cases of online sexual exploitation of children, and for the determination and creativity that has allowed court cases to keep progressing this year. IJM Cebu Field Office Director Lucille Dejito shared: "Despite the limitations brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we see the steadfast effort of our prosecution partners and our courts to keep the wheels of justice turning. We are encouraged to see how our judiciary is adapting to the new realities, making full use of available technology to see this conviction through. Technology-based, child-protective measures such as videoconferencing hearings allow us to uphold the best interest of the child during this time of pandemic."

IJM HQ & Global Partners

IJM headquarters is located in the United States. IJM has international advancement offices in Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

  • Pray for those who are fasting on October 23-24 in IJM's Freedom Fast. The fast participants will spend a full 24 hours in prayer, fasting, stillness, reflection and worship, giving what they would have spent on food that day to fund rescue around the world. Please join them in asking for God's kingdom to come and make all things new on earth, and pray that this discipline of fasting would enable participants to draw closer to God.
