Supporter,
Acres of national forests—public lands containing hundreds of thousands of trees providing habitat for vulnerable wildlife, vital carbon retention, and healing spaces for everyone to explore.
The Trump administration and their fossil fuel cronies are trying to turn it all into a maze of roads, pipelines, and well pads. In yet another giveaway to Big Oil, the Trump administration has proposed a new rule granting easier access to oil companies for drilling and fracking. It's yet another shameful power grab from this president.
And if that wasn't enough, the announcement came while more than a dozen states contended with destructive wildfires—many of which are still burning.
Supporter, drilling in our National Forests—imperiling drinking water supplies and vulnerable species alike—would disproportionately hurt people who are already suffering due to the overlapping crises of COVID-19, environmental injustice and the ongoing economic downturn. It's an unsafe, unjust proposal that we absolutely must stop.
Our nimble grassroots advocacy team is mobilizing public comments against the project—but with just 21 days until the comment period closes, we don't have much time. Rush your upgraded support to become a monthly member now and help us stop this toxic rollback and save our National Forests.
In addition to trees that store carbon and curb the climate crisis, our National Forests contain numerous archeological and cultural treasures—and provide habitat for wildlife ranging from coho salmon to elk, black bears, bobcats, bald eagles and more.
The Trump administration's attempt to gut environmental and health protections in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis—one this administration has utterly failed to manage—is just the latest in a series of moves designed to eliminate environmental reviews, silence the public, and smooth the way for Trump's Big Energy donors.
Time and again, we have learned as an environmental community that when we rise and organize together against this administration's cruel and reckless agenda, we win. The Sierra Club is working, every day, to reverse the damage the Trump Administration has inflicted on both our public lands and public health. But with so many attacks coming at once, we need your ongoing support.
Please, help us stop dirty, dangerous drilling and fracking in our National Forests with your urgent monthly membership to the Sierra Club now.
Our vast National Forest System hosts more than 148 million visits, supports 143,000 full-time jobs and contributes over $10 billion towards America's GDP every year. They also provide needed water resources for drinking and hydroelectric power; assets for recreational activities like hiking, kayaking and fishing; and, of course, sacred spaces for indigenous communities.
The Sierra Club has a long record of fighting for public lands—and we won't let the Trump administration fork even one acre of our wondrous National Forests over to the fossil fuel industry without a fight. Thank you for supporting our work to protect our National Forests, and the wildlife and communities who depend on them.
With gratitude and determination,
Dan Ritzman
