September 20: Strike for the climate with CCAN in Washington, DC.
9/20: Join the biggest climate mobilization of the year:

Dear John,

Where will you be during the biggest climate mobilization of the year?

My name is Anthony Field and I would love for you to join me at the Global Climate Strike on Friday, September 20th in Washington, DC.

The climate strikes are inspired by Swedish teenage activist Greta Thunberg, who captured the world's attention when she started skipping school to raise awareness about the climate crisis. On the 20th, climate strikes will take place all across the world in solidarity.

For those of you who I haven't met, I just joined CCAN to organize against harmful fracked-gas infrastructure projects like the Potomac Pipeline. I recently moved to the area from Denton, Texas, where I joined the local effort to institute a citywide fracking ban, successfully making Denton the first city in Texas to ban fracking! While this ban was eventually overturned by the governor, I am proud to have been a part of an incredible movement. I later managed disaster relief efforts for FEMA, including after Hurricane Harvey devastated my region. For the first time, I saw the impacts of climate disaster face to face. And I knew my part in the climate movement wasn’t over.

I ultimately joined CCAN because the organization is at the forefront of the fight against climate change. At CCAN, we understand that the climate crisis is a human issue and that we are stronger together.

Now I invite you to strengthen our movement.

Sign up to strike in DC with CCAN on the 20th!

This strike is taking place three days before the United Nations will hold a climate summit in New York City. It's a unique opportunity to create a roaring upswell of public support for the ambitious climate solutions we need at all levels of government worldwide. During the strike, we will be calling on our leaders to move away from fossil fuels in a just transition to 100% clean energy as soon as possible.

We’ll meet right before the strike begins at the George Gordon Meade Memorial on Constitution Avenue, just down the street from the Newseum. We’ll convene at 10:45 to talk strategy, go over chants, hand out signs, and talk about our goals for the day.

Here are the details:

WHAT: Climate Strike with CCAN
WHERE: George Gordon Meade Memorial, 333 Constitution Ave NW, Washington, DC 20001
WHEN: We’ll convene at 10:45am then join the rest of the march at 11:00am
RSVP: Click HERE to RSVP. We’ll follow up with you before the 20th with any last-minute details!

If you can’t make it to DC, find another Strike event in your area and RSVP here!

One day of striking won’t solve everything, but it will show those in power that we refuse to stay silent in the face of the climate crisis. And if we’re numerous and loud enough, it will be the spark that helps turn the tide. And that’s all we really need.

Sign up to strike with CCAN today.

See you there,

Anthony Field
