On Tuesday, a federal judge in New Jersey rejected an attempt by Trump's campaign to curtail part of the state's vote-by-mail plan just weeks before Election Day!

While this voter suppression attempt was quashed, there are many others happening across the country in places such as Harris County, Texas. Over the next few weeks, New Americans and people of color must continue to stand up to these attacks on our voting rights and fight back by voting. Because when we vote, we win!

On Tuesday, the highly disturbing news broke that Department of Justice officials were a “driving force” behind Trump’s child separation policy—and that Jeff Sessions told prosecutors in 2018 that “we need to take away children.”

These are not words from someone who sees us and our children as human. This proves once again that the cruelty has been—and still is—the point. We will make our voices heard at the ballot box in November and elect a new generation of leaders who are grounded in dignity and care for all, and will put an end to the routine terrorization of immigrant children.

This week is National Voter Education Week—a friendly reminder to get #ReadytoVote! While there’s still a few days before Election Day (25, to be exact), you definitely want to make a plan now and vote early, if you can.

Here’s a checklist of actions you should take ASAP:

✅ Register to vote or update your registration
✅ Research your local races and ballot initiatives
✅ Request a vote-by-mail ballot or find your polling place
✅ Mail in your ballot or make a plan to vote in-person
✅ Encourage your friends to register to vote
✅ Stay informed

Staying on the subject of voting, check out our new video to hear four NALpistas—Georgia State Representative Bee Nguyen, Redmond (WA) City Councilwoman Varisha Khan, Florida State Representative Dotie Joseph, and New York State Assembly nominee Jessica González-Rojas—explain what’s at stake this November and why we all need to vote.

Quick question: Have you been contacted by any campaigns this year?

If not, that doesn’t surprise us, because New Americans are often overlooked as a voting block. In fact, we're often told that outreach to our communities “isn’t worth the time or money.” Well, we wholeheartedly reject that notion, and we’ve decided to do something about it.

On Wednesday, October 21st at 7 pm EST/4 pm PST, we’re hosting a special event to text #PeopleLikeUs in three important states—Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina. Because, as we know full well, it’s up to us to help get out the vote and expand the electorate.

Interested? (We hope you are!) Click here to RSVP, and bring a buddy!
