Last month, our nation suffered another tragic loss in the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. A titan of American history, Justice Ginsburg was integral to some of our most important civil rights victories. Her dedication to compassion and justice helped secure rights for millions, and her legacy will shine brightly for generations to come. May her memory be a blessing.

We can't waste any more time. As lives are being lost to historic wildfires in California and more frequent natural disasters bear down on us, we must act immediately with bold, transformative climate action.

Governor Newsom's executive order to mandate zero-emission vehicles by 2035 is essential for a safer and healthier California. That's why I introduced the Affordable EVs for Working Families Act to create a tax credit that makes electric vehicles affordable for all Americans.

As we combat climate change, it cannot be at the cost of people and their livelihoods, it has to enhance them. We need to target climate action resources to working families and low-income areas, and we cannot be satisfied with half measures.

That's why I joined 100-plus environmental justice groups and voted against the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act. Although my House Democrats colleagues included some good steps in this bill, it simply isn't enough to address this crisis and secure climate justice for our communities.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced my office to find new, safe ways to bring constituent services directly to you. While I've been hosting telephone town halls and virtual meetings, I've also been in the field with my staff ensuring our neighbors know how my office can help during this difficult time.

Last month, I visited a Project Roomkey site in Westlake with the Downtown Women's Center to see how federal funds passed by House Democrats in the CARES Act are being used to provide safe lodging and health care for those experiencing homelessness.

I also stopped by Virgil Middle School and the First Unitarian Church of L.A. in Koreatown with my staff to help pass out nutritious meals to CA-34 families and ensure my constituents know how to contact my office for federal or local assistance.

It's important for Angelenos to know what resources are available to our community, so I joined the California Census Campaign for a Historic Filipinotown event that stressed the importance of the 2020 Census and provided COVID-19 testing.

The 2020 Census count is still underway! So many of the community resources we've relied on during the COVID-19 pandemic are funded based on the Census, including hospitals and community health centers, public schools and accessible education programs, transportation and infrastructure, and so much more.

It takes just 10 minutes for you to make your voice heard and be counted. You can respond online, by mail if you've received a response form, or over the phone. If a Census worker comes to your door, be sure to answer! They'll have a 2020 Census bag and a government ID from the Department of Commerce.
