Dear AFGE Activist,
We have numerous webinar options available this month. Sign up before they fill up! All webinars are free and open to all AFGE members.
Friday, October 16, 1pm-5pm ET: Stewards Orientation Online: A must for new AFGE stewards, or any steward who has not yet had formal training in best practices for local stewards. This four-hour webinar overviews steward responsibilities, engaging and educating bargaining unit employees, and online tools and resources.
Tuesday, October 20, 8:00pm-10pm ET: E-Dues: Building Power: Is your local interested in learning more about best practices for transitioning to E-Dues? This two-hour webinar outlines strategies for mobilizing teams, using workplace mapping to recruit with a purpose, and real examples of what has worked for other locals to successfully transition to E-Dues.
This webinar is aimed at local leaders and stewards. If you have not already completed the Introduction to E-Dues self-paced online training, we recommend that you do so prior to the webinar; it takes about 15 minutes and is available at www.afge.org/edues.
Thursday, October 22, 11am-1pm ET: Reopening Amidst a Global Pandemic: This new webinar provides an overview of the phases of reopening agency offices and worksites. Participants will learn about their rights, roles and responsibilities during this 3-phased process. Topics include: gating procedures, worksite hygiene, masks wearing requirements, and what to do if you become ill from exposure to COVID-19.
Thursday, October 22, 3pm-4:30pm ET: Bargaining a Safe Return to Work: Join us for a live Q&A discussion about returning to work. Field Services bargaining experts will discuss what the Agency must bargain over, COVID-specific information requests, COVID-specific bargaining proposals, and mobilizing your local around this important work. Please note: Since part of the training is a recorded video, participants must be able to join the training via computer, tablet, or app - not via phone audio only.
Saturday, October 24, 1pm-5pm ET: Representation: Grievance Handling: This 4 hour webinar gives local stewards specific skills and strategies for filing and processing grievances effectively, including identifying grievances, interviewing employees, and sources of evidence. The prerequisite for this webinar is the basic Stewards Orientation webinar which goes into the role of the steward, structure of AFGE, and one of the most important laws that outlines the rights of union representatives — 5 USC Chapter 71. Participants can also take the self-paced courses found on AFGE Learn. Participants should already be a steward at their local.
Friday, October 30, 1pm-5pm ET: Local Officer Orientation: This 4-hour overview for new local officers covers legal, fiduciary, and reporting requirements of local officers. Planning and budgeting for a strong, effective local is discussed.
