Friend,
Since these past few months have been spent at home, we want to create a space of community. Although we’re not able to come together, social media and today’s technology has made it possible to communicate with the Latinx community all over the world.
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month we asked our fellow Latinx voters to share what it means to them to be a Latinx voter in this election, and this is what they said:
“As the daughter of a Brazilian immigrant whose childhood and adulthood were sandwiched in the military dictatorship back home, the 2020 election reminds me too much of sins past. This election is too important to pass up, not only for us born here but for those that can't vote.” Karina Provost / Juntos Latinx Engagement Group Member at NextGen
“Being a Latino voter this year means that I get to reclaim my voice, culture, respect, and dignity back after four years of my community being targeted, murdered, and deported.” Kenneth Zamora / National Latinx Youth Vote Manager at NextGen
“Being a voter means speaking up and taking action when I see injustices happening. Being a voter means teaching my family and friends how to be civically engaged. Being a voter means actively working to close the voter registration gap within the Latinx community. Being a voter means voting for those who cannot. Voting is one tool in a toolkit that will liberate us from oppression." Angel Lara / Juntos Latinx Engagement Group Member at NextGen
This election we are not only voting for ourselves but for our communities. A record 32 million Latinos are projected to be eligible to vote in 2020. We have an opportunity to uplift the issues that matter most to us. Tell your friends and family to take part on the right side of history.
Thank you,
Kenneth Zamora
