We now know exactly why Trump has done so much to try to undermine this election: attacking USPS, casting doubt on vote-by-mail, refusing to commit to a peaceful transition of power. It’s not just because Trump is afraid of losing -- it’s because, if he runs out the clock until January 6, he’ll win.
Republicans currently control a majority of state delegations in the House of Representatives. That means that in 2021, during the certification of electoral votes -- normally a routine task -- the GOP could declare Trump the winner and Democrats wouldn’t have the power to stop them.
Everyone in our party must stand together, now, to halt this Republican power grab before it starts. We’ve seen the GOP won’t let tradition, morals, or basic humanity obstruct their march to power. Nancy Pelosi said it best: “It's sad we have to have to plan this way, but it's what we must do to ensure the election is not stolen.”
Unfortunately, we are currently BEHIND in the races we need to win to gain a majority of state delegations in the House. That’s no surprise -- Republicans are now laser-focused on these races because they know winning them is their ONLY hope to keep the White House until 2025.
Friend, this is why Progressive Majority exists. We’re here to answer the call when the GOP tries to break our democracy. We’re here to amplify the millions of Democrats who may not be able to vote in these key House races, but who still demand their voices be heard. But we weren’t expecting Trump to use an Electoral College loophole to cling to power -- and right now we don’t have the seats, the leads, or the funds we need to stop him.
