Immigrants are the unsung heroes of our economy. They come to America to find a better life, work hard, and live the American dream - and they contribute to all of our well-being. Immigrants start a disproportionate number of new businesses, and key industries like the technology and health care sectors could not function without them.

But right now, the American dream is out of reach for many immigrants. Against the protestation of tech giants and universities, Donald Trump has made it harder for immigrants to get visas to work in the United States, and his disastrous COVID-19 response has made many potential immigrants think coming to the U.S. will put them and their families at risk.

That's a huge problem for all of us. The U.S. has long had an economic advantage because we intentionally attracted hard workers from all over the world to come study in our universities and work for our cutting-edge companies, but that's changing. Trump's racist immigration policy, cratering economy, and disastrous COVID-19 response has been so bad that they're causing tens of thousands of immigrants, like this highly talented recruit to the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, to decline great jobs in the U.S. because the risks of moving here outweigh the benefits.

That's why I'm asking you to contact your representatives and demand they safeguard our country from COVID-19, stop cost-cutting measures that will slow our economic recovery, and reform our broken immigration system.

If we're going to turn this around, it will be through the efforts of people like you. Thanks for helping make sure every person in this country can pursue their own American dream.
