** Gwynne welcomes new bus 335 service linking Dane Bank and Denton town centre
------------------------------------------------------------

Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, has welcomed the approval of an extension of the 335 bus service to Dane Bank.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) have today (9 October) approved extending the existing Ashton-Dukinfield-Denton 335 loop service up to Dane Bank. This will ensure people who rely on public transport and need to access services at Crown Point still have the ability to do so.

The news comes after Stagecoach previously altered the 205 service, cutting the Dane Bank estate off from Denton town centre. A replacement 305 service was then withdrawn after just two days running.

Gwynne and the local Denton West councillors (Brenda Warrington, Mike Smith and George Jones) have been campaigning with local residents to retain a bus link between Dane Bank and Denton town centre.

Adding Dane Bank to the 335 also means that the estate will now have a new service link with Dukinfield and Ashton.

335 is a TfGM subsidised service and is operated by Stotts. The new hourly bus service is set to commence on 25th October.

Andrew Gwynne said:

“This will be very welcome news for residents of Dane Bank, who experienced the twin disappointments of Stagecoach’s abandonment followed by the withdrawal of the replacement 305 service.

“I am delighted that Dane Bank residents will once again be able to get to Denton town centre by bus, and the link to Dukinfield and Ashton is a very welcome bonus.”

Speaking on behalf of the Denton West councillors, Councillor George Jones said:

“I’m delighted we’ve been able to restore a Dane Bank to Denton link via public transport.

“We know our town centre provides the vital services that residents need and I’m glad that they will now be able to access them with ease.

“We’ve worked incredibly hard on this but we must now secure this services future by regularly using it.”

** Gwynne welcomes partial restoration of Fairfield services but calls for more
------------------------------------------------------------

Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, has welcomed the partial restoration of services at Audenshaw’s Fairfield Station, but is continuing to push for full restoration.

Today (9 October), Gwynne had an online video call with Northern Trains who have confirmed that some passenger rail services will be restored to Fairfield Station in Audenshaw from 26 October, as promised following Gwynne’s lobbying of Ministers in Parliament alongside Jonathan Reynolds (MP for Stalybridge and Hyde) and William Wragg (MP for Hazel Grove).

Northern has confirmed that from 26 October, there will be a 90 minute service. As this is not yet fully restored to normal levels, the Metrolink ticket acceptance will still operate, as will the ‘ring and ride’ taxi service.

On 14 December, it is expected Fairfield will be served by an hourly service, at which point the alternative ticketing arrangements will stop.

This is dependent on what COVID restrictions may or may not be put in place in the coming weeks which might have an impact on Northern’s workforce.

The train company has also confirmed that upgrade work to the Fairfield Station platform will be taking place in the next week or so, with the platform coping stones being re-laid, the surface evening out and the furniture and railings being repainted.

Andrew Gwynne said:

“This is a really important service for people in Audenshaw and the surrounding area and it never should have been stopped.

“I welcome that there will be some service, but will be closely monitoring the situation to ensure that Northern does not backslide on a return to the full service.”

Speaking on behalf of Audenshaw’s councillors, Councillor Oliver Ryan said:

“We know that many Audenshaw residents rely on this service every day.

“While this partial restoration to normality is welcomed, we will continue to push for full reopening and improvement of this important train service. Northern must do better.”

** Gwynne welcomes NHS England Long Covid service
------------------------------------------------------------

Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish and a ‘Long Termer’, has welcomed the news that people suffering ‘Long Covid’ symptoms will be offered specialist help at clinics across England.

Today (7 October) Sir Simon Stevens, NHS chief executive, announced that £10 million is be invested this year in additional local funding to help kick start and designate Long Covid clinics in every area across England, to complement existing primary, community and rehabilitation care.

Some estimates suggest that 10% of Covid patients may still be experiencing symptoms more than three weeks after infection, and perhaps 60,000 people could be suffering from ‘Long Covid’ symptoms after more than three months.

Respiratory consultants, physiotherapists, other specialists and GPs will all help assess, diagnose and treat thousands of sufferers who have reported symptoms ranging from breathlessness, chronic fatigue, “brain fog”, anxiety and stress.

Gwynne has himself suffered from Long Covid since March and has pushed repeatedly in Parliament for more research into the condition and support for those living with it. This included tabling an Early Day Motion supported by MPs from every party represented in the House of Commons ([link removed]) .

Andrew Gwynne said:

“This is fantastic news for all of us who are still experiencing symptoms months after recovering from Covid.

“I have found ‘Long Covid’ to be an absolutely debilitating condition and know that thousands of others are in the same boat. It has been a frustrating period for many of us, as we have had to struggle to get awareness – let alone clinical support – for the condition.

“I am delighted that the NHS England is taking ‘Long Covid’ seriously and hope that the measures announced today will help all of us ‘Long Termers’ along the road to recovery.”

NHS chief executive Sir Simon Stevens said:

“While this is still a relatively new virus, we are learning more about Covid with every passing week.

“It is now clear that Long Covid can have a major impact on the lives of a significant minority of patients weeks or months after they have contracted the virus.

“So just as the NHS quickly put in place specialist hospital care for acutely ill Covid patients at the start of the pandemic, now we must respond sensitively and effectively to these new patient needs.”

Awful weather but it was really nice to catch up with Stockport MP Nav Mishra in Denton. We discussed the GM Spatial Framework.

The proposed Bredbury industrial estate site is immediately behind us. We are agreed about the value of our Tame Valley to both our constituencies.

Earlier today, I popped by Denton’s newest restaurant and cocktail bar, The Post Room (in the old Post Office). The food is out of this world. And the Negroni wasn’t half bad either!!!

Well worth a visit (before Boris shuts hospitality again). It’s a fab addition to the town.

📺 WATCH: It’s great news that the prosecutions of 44 sub-postmasters affected by the Horizon IT scandal have been dropped. Hundreds of former sub-postmasters are affected including my constituent Della Robinson. Not much of an answer from the Minister.

📺 WATCH: With the ‘missing data’ Greater Manchester’s COVID rates are massive. We’ve been under local lockdown for two months now and the Government’s measures clearly aren’t working. I support the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s alternative local approach.

📺 WATCH: In Scotland Questions ahead of PMQs on Wednesday, I asked Ministers why the Government isn’t extending a sectoral furlough protection in the parts of the UK - like Scotland and the North of England.

It seems the Government has now u-turned on this, but as always we'll need to see the detail.

🎃 REDDISH HALLOWEEN PICTURE HUNT🎃
This year Trick or Treating has been cancelled due to the current pandemic.

Halloween is going to be a little bit different this year, so why not put a Halloween Picture in your window as a trail for children, and big ones, to follow.

To get involved put a Halloween picture in your window, similar to the Rainbow Hunt, for others to spot.

Please display your pictures during the week of 26th-31st October for a week of fun and hunting.

As we are unable to give halloween treats out if parents wish too they can give their child a treat for each pumpkin they spot on their hunt.
