My Views on the Rule of Six

Whilst I reluctantly support draconian measures where the evidence demonstrates it will reduce Covid-19, and will be proportionate, I voted against this rule.

Major Hospital Rebuild for Bexhill, Hastings and Eastbourne

Welcome news that there will be a new hospital for Eastbourne in addition to new medical wards and major refurbishment at the Conquest and a new clinical building in Bexhill.

It has been a disheartening start for students returning to university so I spoke up in the Chamber for the benefits of the university experience.

Having led the call for more Parliamentary scrutiny, my constituency neighbours and I welcomed the decision to ensure MPs must ratify Coronavirus rules before they are implemented.

East Sussex MPs meet with County Council Leader
 

This week's local stakeholder was Cllr Keith Glazier. We discussed school funding, nursery provision in Bexhill, social care reform and the need for an early local Government financial settlement.

Longer Sentences for Assaults on Emergency Workers

Sussex MPs were shocked to be told of an increase in attacks on frontline ambulance staff so I raised the need to stiffen sentencing with the Home Office Minister.

This week the Transport Select Committee published our report on whether e-scooters should be legalised on roads and cycle lanes.

Visit to local business, Identity 

As part of my constituency tour I met Michael Gietzen, Managing Director of Identity. It is not just me who found this to be a superb  business; they are about to receive The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade (to be presented by HM Lord Lieutenant for East Sussex).
