PLC launches Month For Life 2020 ()

The Pro Life Campaign’s Month for Life 2020 is underway.

The aim of of the Month for Life is encourage pro-life supporters all over Ireland to take one pro-life action during the month to highlight life issues and help educate the wider public on these topics.

Commenting on the launch, spokesperson for the PLC, Eilís Mulroy said:

"Pro-life activity can take many forms - having a word with a friend, volunteering with Community Connect, sharing pro-life stories, social media graphics or messages online or getting involved in local projects and initiatives. One of the easiest ways to spreading positive pro-life messages is by sharing pro-life social media graphics with family and friends.

"Given the vote earlier this week passing the Second Stage of the Gino Kenny Euthanasia Bill, it's more important than ever that pro-life supporters remain committed to promoting the cause of life in their areas.

"We want to thank all those who are already active and have been engaging with politicians on our recent campaigns, such as telemedicine abortion. We encourage those who have been thinking of getting more active to do sure during this time".

Dáil Passes Second Stage of Euthanasia Bill - How your TD Voted ()
On Wednesday night, 81 TDs voted to advance Gino Kenny's Dying with Dignity Bill beyond second stage. In what was a surprisingly close vote, 71 TDs voted against. You can see how your TDs voted here. ([link removed]) At the second stage debate on the bill last week, out of a 75 minute debate , only less than 5 were assigned to speakers who were opposed to the Bill. It is extremely troubling to see a bill designed to facilitate the ending of human life pass second stage with such ease and without any meaningful debate or scrutiny whatsoever.

But all is by no means lost.

In recent weeks, the overwhelming opposition of palliative care consultants and other healthcare professionals was publicly expressed. And the full-scale horror of what euthanasia has wreaked in countries where it has been legalised still has to be fully aired in the debate in Ireland. We must not adopt a defeatist approach. This Bill can be defeated at final stage, or even committee stage. There will be people all over Ireland who are living with a terminal illness or are older people, who will be frightened and downcast on hearing the news that a euthanasia bill is making its way through the Dáil. We owe it to them to fight on.
