$200 million. That's how much Donald Trump and the RNC have already raised this year.

That is a lot of money to compete with. If Democrats come up short, we could be doomed to four more years of Trump, which would fundamentally change the character of this nation.

That's why the DNC created the Democratic Unity Fund, because our eventual Democratic nominee will need the resources to keep pace with Republicans. I'm proud to support their efforts because we can't win back the White House without a well-financed DNC. So, John, I have to ask for your help:

I know firsthand how expensive presidential campaigns can be. Once the general election started in 2008, Barack and I were so grateful that we could count on a strong, well-prepared DNC to help us win back the White House. We truly couldn't have done it without them. No matter who becomes our party's nominee, they're going to need a just as strong -- if not stronger -- DNC to win in 2020.

And, John, we can't just focus on the White House. If we want to create the better future for America that I know is possible, we'll also need a Democratic House and Senate. But to do that, we need a Democratic Party powerful enough to spread our message, mobilize voters, and get out the vote nationwide.

The DNC is the only official party committee tasked with electing Democrats at every level of government, from the state house to the White House. Donald Trump's team is raising a historic amount of money in hopes of winning a second term, and we simply can't let them build an overwhelming advantage, John. We cannot afford four more years of Donald Trump, period.
