Dear NRDC Activist,

Samsung claims that it's "acting now for a sustainable low-carbon future." The company has even won awards for its sustainability practices.

But despite Samsung's pro-climate rhetoric, Samsung Group's subsidiaries, including Samsung C&T and Samsung Securities, are still building coal plants, providing billions in insurance for coal plants, and even funding dangerous and environmentally ruinous coal mining operations.

If Samsung is serious about sustainability and helping fight the climate crisis, they must divest from coal IMMEDIATELY.

Please, send a message to Samsung that you'll hit them where it hurts — their wallets — and refuse to buy ANY Samsung affiliated products this holiday shopping season unless Samsung makes a plan to divest from coal before then.

Coal plants are the single biggest source of global carbon emissions. They also cause over 800,000 premature deaths due to respiratory and other illnesses worldwide each year.

These tragedies are especially concentrated in countries that still rely heavily on coal plants for energy, such as Vietnam. Yet, despite the known health impacts in these regions, Samsung is rumored to be involved in building the highly-controversial Vung Ang 2 coal plant in Vietnam.

Multiple banks have already divested from the project due to climate concerns — now, we need to convince Samsung to do the same.

Call on the CEOs of Samsung to put the livability of our planet before their profits by backing out of the Vung Ang 2 project and divesting fully from coal right away!

The U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has made it clear that we MUST phase out the use of coal starting now if we're to have any chance of staving off the worst impacts of the climate crisis.

Over 120 financial institutions around the world have already divested from coal in recent years. So why is Samsung STILL building new coal-fired power plants?

We know that activist pressure has convinced corporations to divest from coal. Just last month, General Electric (GE) announced it would divest from coal in response to public pressure, including from NRDC activists. Now, we must put Samsung's feet to the fire and pressure them to follow suit.

Can I count on you to stand with me and NRDC and make your voice heard today?

Samsung's products include cell phones and TVs, but there are also products of Samsung subsidiaries such as sound systems by Harman, Mark Levinson, AKG, or Revel; kitchen products from Dacor; headphones or speakers from JBL or Infinity, or home products from SmartThings.

It's time to stop supporting Samsung when the company is not taking the climate crisis seriously enough.
