Last night, the vice presidential debate saw the nominees perversely competing to see who could more strongly embrace fracking.

This is an incredible policy to double down on.

Red skies at high noon last month made inescapably clear that business as usual is killing us.

Wildfires have torched 4,000,000 acres this year before wildfire season even officially began.

Hurricanes have repeatedly pummeled the Gulf Coast.

Dozens have lost their lives, and thousands have lost their livelihoods as a result.

Rather than doubling down on fossil fuel extraction, we must immediately act to minimize our use of fossil fuels and other carbon-emitting sources of energy. Natural gas is only viable if you ignore all the consequences to the surrounding land and the people who live there.

A Green New Deal provides the framework we need to pursue that transition. We can provide a just transition to those thousands of workers in the fossil fuel industry, and invest in a green energy renaissance to empower millions more.

We need change in Washington—and we can start by changing the voice that San Francisco sends to represent our city in Congress.

No race in the country presents a greater opportunity to advance the Green New Deal.
