“If Capito doesn’t have the courage to debate then why does she deserve anyone’s vote?” -- Richard Ojeda

John -- I’ve been calling for a debate with Shelley Moore Capito for a while now. If she’s so proud of her legislative record, why won’t she face me on the debate stage and defend it?

Why won’t she face the people she was elected to serve? Three years ago some of her constituents tried to get her to discuss healthcare, and she refused to meet with them. They resorted to flying paper airplanes with notes over the door into her office in an attempt to get her to listen.

My opponent says she is ‘there’ but we can see with our own eyes that she is NOT. Constituents shouldn’t have to fly paper airplanes into her office, period. She should already care that people will die without healthcare.

Well, I do care. And I will be there every day listening to the people I serve, and working for them. Every single one of them. Because I refuse to take one single dime of corporate money. That’s why Capito won’t debate me. She doesn’t serve me, or you, or any of us in West Virginia. She serves her corporate donors, Mitch McConnell, and Donald Trump.

The closest Shelley and I got to an actual debate was our meeting with the Dominion Post editorial board. We faced each other (via video conference) and defended our positions. Well, guess what? The Dominion Post endorsed me, even though Capito had the board’s support in 2014.

That’s really what she’s afraid of, John. She’s afraid to face me, and she’s afraid to face voters. This is unacceptable. We deserve better. We deserve leaders who understand what it means to serve the people who elected them.

Can you help me put pressure on Shelley for a debate by pitching in to our TV ad fund?

It’s only fair to the voters of West Virginia to hear from both of us. With your help there will be even more pressure to force Shelley to participate in the democratic process instead of hiding in her office.
