Dear John,
The media has been saying for weeks that Democrats have no chance of stopping Amy Coney Barrett, Donald Trump's pick to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court.
But we might now have a real shot at stopping the GOP's power grab.
In fact, with at least three Republicans infected with COVID-19 and two others in self-quarantine, Republicans might not even have the votes to get this nomination through. What's undoubtedly true is that they cannot safely move forward with hearings and a full vote without creating yet another super-spreader event, endangering the lives of not only senators but also everyday people who work in the Senate buildings and their families.
We need to keep informing the public about how Amy Coney Barrett will almost certainly vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act, throw out abortion rights, and tilt the courts even further in favor of corporations and wealthy special interests.
Our team is working day and night to educate the public, including about the stakes of this nomination, and underscore what needs to be done to save what's left of our democracy.
Will you chip in whatever you can to help support our work?
Judge Barrett's introductory news conference was already the biggest single super-spreader event in Washington, D.C., since the start of the pandemic. A hearing and vote would force senators who have been exposed or tested positive to come out of isolation, risking the health of thousands of everyday workers who staff the Senate, clean the building, and prepare food—and don't have access to the world-class, government-funded health care that Donald Trump got at Walter Reed Medical Center.
Inequality Media Civic Action is one of the only progressive organizations with the reach on social media to compete with conservatives, who have turned Facebook and YouTube into a "right-wing echo chamber." Millions of Americans get their news from social media, and if we're not out there making the case against Amy Coney Barrett and Trump's Supreme Court power grab every day, the GOP will succeed in entrenching minority rule for generations.
By donating to support our work, you help us continue to produce the steady stream of smart, sharable content that goes viral on social media day in and day out.
In just the one week that Amy Coney Barrett was nominated, our team got 33.6 million impressions on Twitter, 400,000 video views on Instagram, and 7.3 million views on Facebook. Those are huge numbers with the reach to really move public opinion, but we need your help to keep it up.
We suddenly have a real shot at stopping Trump's nominee to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court.
Please donate whatever you can to help keep up the fight.
Thanks for all you do,
Robert Reich
