Paramedics play an integral role in primary health care, and face many musculoskeletal (and other) injury risks in the process. This new standard will help support and improve paramedic health and performance by strengthening the use and application of ergonomic principles into ambulance design.

The third webinar in this series will focus more broadly on lessons learned from the lens of an ergonomist. Ergonomic principles are most effective when considered proactively, at the earliest stages of design. Examples and vignettes will be discussed regarding the necessity of gauging ergonomics knowledge among the technical committee, dealing with anthropometry and considering how to integrate ergonomic principles to improve design without restricting creativity and innovation.

Recognizing Gravenhurst's first responders October 13

The program's purpose is to recognize the good work of the men and women, of these agencies, who contribute to the safety and security of our community.

Rural island communities calling for changes to Nova Scotia ambulance service

People living on two rural islands in Nova Scotia say they want to see changes to their ambulance service after experiencing what they say are unacceptable wait times. Residents on Brier Island and Long Island, about 70 kilometres from Digby, say they're used to waiting up to 90 minutes for an ambulance to show up when there is an emergency.

Active and retired paramedics will be paying tribute to colleagues who have died in the line of duty as a part of this year's Paramedic Services Memorial Bike Ride. Members of the Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services will be cycling 140 kms over the weekend with a memorial bell to honour 51 fallen paramedics.

Blackville mayor calls for better ambulance coverage for village

Blackville mayor and volunteer firefighter Chris Hennessy said something needs to be done about ambulance wait times in his community about 40 kilometres southwest of Miramichi. There have been a number of tragic accidents in and around the village and Hennessy said the ambulance coverage they need is never available.

Paramedic Memorial Bell completes its tour of Wellington County

Fifty-one names were read and 51 times the Paramedic Memorial Bell tolled in memory of Canadian paramedics who have died on the job since 1980. The Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service held a moving service on Oct. 2 at its headquarters on Clair Road in Guelph to mark the end of its part in the Paramedic Relay.

Ambulance dispatch & availability remains an issue in the foothills

Foothills County Division Two Councillor, Delilah Miller, says it's something most have come to terms with, but there's still one issue they'd like to see resolved with the province, and that's having enough ambulances stationed in the Foothills all the time.

Man assaults two Vancouver paramedics with fire extinguisher

Two Vancouver paramedics were assaulted by a man with a fire extinguisher while responding to an overnight call on Friday. According to Vancouver Police Const. Tania Visintin, the incident took place near Cambie and Smithe Streets just after midnight on Friday, as the paramedics were escorting their patient towards their ambulance.

Four new paramedics to be hired in 100 Mile House

After being staffed with only part-time paramedics for a long time, four new full-time paramedics will be hired in 100 Mile House. The change in staffing is part of a new collective agreement that follows conversion from on-call and stand-by staff towards permanent full-time personnel in smaller communities across BC.

Former paramedic sounds alarm on operational, burnout crisis at ambulance service

A former Winnipeg ambulance paramedic is sounding the alarm on an operational and burnout crisis at the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS). Jennifer Setlack, who served the WFPS for 11 years before resigning in July and is now completing her third university degree, told the Winnipeg Sun on Thursday there’s a significant over-utilization of ambulance paramedics in Winnipeg.
