In anticipation of an election, CHBA BC had submitted to all parties our policy recommendations on housing issues.
CHBA BC has identified three key questions you can raise when engaging with any of your candidates to ensure they understand key housing issues and priorities.
Find these three questions on our website here.

The road to housing affordability is paved with more housing construction
Financial Post
The above-mentioned article explores the line of thinking and evidence that reflects that the "increased pressure on housing prices (exist) because there isn’t enough of the right type of construction to shelter the growing population."
"Supply skepticism can be addressed by highlighting research from the Housing Policy Debate journal that reviewed 100 studies to conclude that an increase in housing construction moderates housing price increases and improves affordability... Other research shows that an increase in the supply of new homes moderates housing prices more so than an increase in listings of existing homes."
Commentary: Governments at all levels have spent significant time addressing housing affordability on the demand side of the equation, but as exemplified within the article, there is copious evidence across the globe that reflects how crucial housing supply is in addressing the increasing cost of housing affordability.
