It's important to remember how far election security has come since 2016, but we still have more work to do.

Dear John,

Like many of Verified Voting’s team members, I live in Philadelphia. And these days, when small talk at the doctor’s office or grocery store turns to work, I find myself bombarded with questions about the election: “Is it safe to mail my ballot?” “How likely is it that the voting machines will be hacked?” “Are we really going to be able to trust the election results?”

People are nervous. Disinformation about mail fraud continues to spread, including in venues as public and high-profile as the presidential debates. Our experts have pointed out many times that the attacks on mail voting are unfounded, but voters in Pennsylvania and across the country are still facing real obstacles to casting their ballots and ensuring their voices will be heard.

What makes me more nervous than anything else is the danger of voters feeling hopeless and not making a plan to vote. But at Verified Voting, the continued public focus on election security strikes us as a big sign of how far we’ve come since 2016. More voters than at any point since our founding will be voting with paper records this election, particularly in Pennsylvania. And we’ll be using those records here and elsewhere to conduct the kind of rigorous audits that couldn’t have been done before. None of that would have been possible without supporters like you standing behind our team through every alarming news cycle.

In many ways, Verified Voting’s most important work begins where many plans drop off: what happens after we vote. It’s not always glamorous, but at a time when people need transparency and clear, evidence-based information more than ever, we can’t wait until the next election cycle to wonder what more we could have done. Please don’t wait to make your impact - stay informed, help others to do the same, and consider a gift to help us continue using evidence and technical rigor for what is not yet known.
