First Liberty
Dear John,
We're less than a week away from the U.S. Senate's
commencement of the confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett,
which are set to begin next Monday, Oct. 12.
Here's where we stand at the moment:
* Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) wants to place the hearings on hold,
claiming that in-person meetings would be unsafe. This, despite
the fact that over the past 6 months the entire
nation-from churches and synagogues, to schools,
restaurants and businesses-has adapted to the "new
normal" of 2020 by conducting online virtual meetings.
* Obviously, Sen. Schumer's delay tactics are unfounded,
given that many candidates for elected office are hosting
virtual town hall meetings. Even the Virginia General Assembly
(controlled by Schumer's own party) is hosting virtual
committee meetings.
* Even with a simple, virtual solution right under their noses,
they refuse to acknowledge the obvious. Instead, Democrats are
warning senators and staffers that in-person hearings would put
them at risk and claim they are "non-sufficient."
* Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, (R-SC) has
vowed to kick-off on Monday, Oct. 12, despite Democrats'
onslaught of resistance and hypocrisy.
* The Senate has been steadfast, vowing to go full steam ahead,
including Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) who says he will wear a
"moon suit" if it means he can appear for an
in-person vote to confirm Judge Barrett.
Obviously, the Supreme Court "fight of the century" has
begun in earnest, with the progressive Left waging a war that's
completely out of whack, including the idea that a confirmation
hearing (virtual or in-person) can't be held in the middle of a
pandemic.
But, like I said, this is 2020. And every American has proven to be
adaptable and resilient in finding innovative ways to meet the moment
at hand.
To us, it makes absolutely no sense to delay next week's
confirmation proceeding of Judge Amy Coney Barrett.
Surely, senators asking questions virtually to a highly-qualified
nominee can be an easy solution for conducting the people's
business. The American people deserve nothing less.
If you agree, please sign our pledge to stand with Judge Amy Coney
Barrett and ask the U.S. Senate to confirm her without delay.
Sign the petition now.
