Friends -

The fossil fuel industry is doing everything it can to keep Republicans in power and prevent climate action, so we’re going to take the fight to them.

Today, we’re taking the fight to Big Oil’s backyard: Texas. Texas is a battleground, and we have a real shot to flip a number of seats.

That’s why I’m endorsing Wendy Davis, Gina Ortiz Jones, Julie Oliver, Mike Siegel and Candace Valenzuela. They will fearlessly stand up to polluters, take bold climate action and help us save our planet.

They are all running competitive races in districts currently held by Republicans. All of them can win, but they need our help.

Will you please split a $3 contribution among all of our campaigns to help us win in November and take back power from Republicans? Flipping five seats in Big Oil’s turf would send a powerful message that voters are demanding bold climate action.

All of these candidates are running fantastic races, and they have a chance to make history. So I want to make sure you know a bit about each of them:

Wendy Davis (TX-21) understands the struggles of Texas families. Before she ever ran for office, she was a young single mom working two jobs to make ends meet. She stood for 13 hours to filibuster legislation that would shutdown women’s health centers — also showing off that she too understands the importance of a great pair of sneakers. She will take that same fight to Congress to ensure our children have clean air and water, good and safe public schools, and quality affordable health care.

Gina Ortiz Jones (TX-23) was raised by a single mom who worked multiple jobs, and understands how education, service, and hard work can create opportunities. Gina served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force, deployed to Iraq, and has worked for nearly 15 years in national and economic security. If elected, she will make history as the first Filipina-America elected to Congress and the first openly LGBTQ person elected to Congress from Texas.

Julie Oliver (TX-25) is running a progressive, people-powered campaign for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, a pathway to citizenship, and an equitable economy that prioritizes working families. She understands the struggles Texans and Americans face because she’s been through them: a young mother, Julie finished high school with her baby daughter, and then put herself through college and law school. Medicaid gave her the prenatal care she needed. Pell Grants and the Earned Income Tax Credit enabled her to graduate debt-free.

Mike Siegel (TX-10) is a civil rights lawyer and former public school teacher. He has spent his career fighting to empower students and protect the most vulnerable, and now he’s running for Congress on progressive ideas — including the Green New Deal. Mike will work to help us get justice, fix systemic inequality, and ensure the American Dream is accessible to all.

Candace Valenzuela (TX-24) is a mother, educator, and lifelong Texan who is fighting to increase opportunities for hardworking families. Candace was the first in her family to graduate from college, has overcome homelessness, and is now channeling her lived experience into the fight for equity. As an at-large representative of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District board, she’s worked to ensure children receive the quality education they deserve. And as a member of Congress, she’ll fight to ensure every Texan can thrive through accessible housing, better health care, and a clean environment. If elected, she will become the first Black Latina in Congress.

Passing the Green New Deal will require us to defeat Republicans across the country who have long stood in our way, and there would be no sweeter victory than winning in Big Oil’s backyard. With our help, these Texans can not only win — but prove once and for all that bold climate action is a winning issue across the country.

Split a $3 donation between these five candidates and my re-election campaign right now to help us defeat climate-denying Republicans and end Big Oil’s grip on Congress. All of these candidates are running grassroots campaigns that depend on support from people like you.

Winning these races would send a message about our movement’s strength and expand our power in Congress, so thank you for supporting our campaigns today.
