Dear John,
Last month, thousands of AFSC supporters like you signed our petition to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after a whistleblower reported hysterectomies were being performed on people in ICE custody at the for-profit Irwin County Detention Center in Georgia.
The U.S. House of Representatives took a step in the right direction last week when they passed a resolution condemning the unwanted, unnecessary medical procedures and calling for the Department of Homeland Security to comply with investigations. But to stop the abuses of ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), we need Congress to do more.
Sign our petition with Daily Kos: Tell Congress to defund ICE and CBP!
Since their inception, ICE and CBP have allowed hundreds of immigrants to die in their custody. And every day, these agencies detain tens of thousands of people in unsanitary jails—many of which are run by for-profit prison companies—where they face even greater risks to their lives and health in this pandemic.
It’s time for Congress to stop handing $25 billion each year to ICE and CBP—and instead redirect our tax dollars to health care, education, and other critical programs that promote the health and safety of all members of our communities.
Join us today in urging Congress to cut funding for ICE and CBP!
Thank you for standing up for the human rights of immigrants and taking action to stop these abusive agencies once and for all.
In solidarity,
Kristin Kumpf
