Quasi-religious hysteria may provide meaning for activists, but given the global nature of the problem, we need to address it not with panic but reason, and careful consideration about consequences, something in all too short supply today."

E&E News (9/9/19) reports: "Ambling across a desert valley, 100 or so wild horses congregate in and around muddy pools of water in a flat, arid section of the Bureau of Land Management's Pancake Herd Management Area...The vegetation that rims the valley is little more than shrubs and brushes, mostly black sage, and rabbitbrush — nothing much the horses care to eat — in between dry-as-a-bone sand and dirt...Nevada is ground zero for the West's increasingly disastrous problem of growing herds of wild horses and burros. There are more than 47,000 wild horses and burros across some 14 million acres of BLM managed herd areas in the Silver State — more than half the 88,000 wild horses and burros on federally managed lands in the West. And that's far more than the land can sustain."

Reuters (9/9/19) reports: "Dozens of cities in liberal-leaning states such as California, Washington, and Massachusetts are studying proposals to ban or limit the use of natural gas in commercial and residential buildings. The movement opens a new front in the fight against climate change that could affect everything from heating systems in skyscrapers to stoves in suburban homes. Berkeley, California, in July became the first U.S. city to pass an ordinance banning gas systems in new buildings, and it may soon be followed by many others, according to interviews with local officials, activists and industry groups. Los Angeles and Seattle are among those considering laws that could drastically reduce natural gas consumption. 'Berkeley is the opening salvo,' said Bruce Nilles, managing director of think tank Rocky Mountain Institute’s building electrification program."

Washington Times (9/7/19) column: "Is the left once again embracing Malthusian population control in order to save the planet? Of all the preposterous proposals put forward by the Democratic presidential candidates during the CNN climate change townhall meeting last week, the dumbest wasn’t outlawing plastic straws, incandescent light bulbs or air travel. It wasn’t the contention that climate change is the greatest threat since World War II. It wasn’t even the fantastical hypothesis that hurricanes are racist because they target “communities of color” more than white areas. No, the dumbest (and most dangerous) idea was a rehash of the widely discredited authoritarian idea from the 1960s and 1970s — population control. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders was asked by a school teacher whether it would even be possible to fight global warming given that 'the world’s population has doubled over the last 50 years.' Would the senator be 'courageous enough to discuss curbing population growth' as part of his climate plan. Mr. Sanders obediently blurted out 'absolutely yes.'"
