A community organizer shows off the model of the agroecology and political formation school. Your gift will fund continued construction and infrastructure to train even more leaders in the region.

Dear Friend,

The main reason people are fleeing countries like Guatemala is because it simply is not safe for them to remain where they are. In 2018, 26 land rights defenders were murdered, more than double from the year before.

Big Ag’s land grabs (particularly in Indigenous territories) are stealing the best land and displacing Indigenous and rural communities, leaving them food insecure. This is why food sovereignty – the right for all people to decide what they eat and to ensure that food in their community is ecologically, socially, economically, and culturally appropriate – is so important.

I am asking activist-donors like you to fund one of the solutions to this problem  building an agroecology and political formation school in Guatemala. The school will teach Indigenous Peoples and smallholder farmers agricultural methods that are in harmony with nature to restore damaged lands and soils, and will educate them on methods to organize, protect and feed their communities.

We are crowdsourcing the money needed to make the $10,000 grant to our Guatemalan partner who coordinates the school. Your gift today will go toward:

  • Building classrooms and infrastructure
  • Drilling water wells
  • Installing solar panels for electricity and lighting, as well as security systems
  • Staffing the school
  • Constructing the women’s dormitory

This project can only be funded if dedicated activists like you step up to the plate. Any donation you can make will have a huge impact for years to come as Indigenous People and smallholder farmers share their knowledge gained at the school with their communities to build powerful grassroots movements.

We need to make the $10,000 grant by October 1, so please make your donation todayThank you for your generosity!

In solidarity,
Chung-Wha Hong
Executive Director

P.S. As the saying goes, “Many hands make light work,” which is why we need your gift of $25, $50, $100 or more today. Together we can fund this important work.
