Departmental Guidance for Youth Work Organisations - Informed by the Government’s Resilience & Recovery 2020-2021: Plan for Living with COVID-19

Hello John,

I hope this finds you well.

As we moved to Level 3 across the country from midnight Tuesday 6^th October, I thought it might be helpful to re-issue the guidance ([link removed][UNIQID]&utm_source=Stay+in+touch+with+NYCI&utm_campaign=fd7d18541b-Covid-19+Level+3+update+8.10.20&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c5e3fd8386-fd7d18541b-390949575&mc_cid=fd7d18541b&mc_eid=[UNIQID]) that we developed with the officials in the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY).

These are not new rules but existing rules that now come in to effect at a different level for the whole country.

As advised previously, this Guidance for Youth Work Organisations ([link removed][UNIQID]) is based on the Government’s new framework, Resilience and Recovery 2020-2021: Plan for Living with Covid-19.

I have also included a link to the official DCEDIY/NYCI Covid Induction for Youth Services ([link removed][UNIQID])

It is worth noting that the new guidance continues to recognise that youth work provides a controlled environment for young people.

Research has shown that young people who engage with youth work are more optimistic during this very difficult time, so we want to continue to provide services for them, and provide them safely for everyone.

The guidance ([link removed][UNIQID]&utm_source=Stay+in+touch+with+NYCI&utm_campaign=fd7d18541b-Covid-19+Level+3+update+8.10.20&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c5e3fd8386-fd7d18541b-390949575&mc_cid=fd7d18541b&mc_eid=[UNIQID]) based on the Plan for Living with Covid-19 hopefully creates predictability, so that you know what restrictions will apply at each level.
* Youth services will all now need to adhere to the Level 3 measures.

* Youth services may operate groups of up to 15 including the youth workers.

* Youth services may operate multiple groups if you have sufficient space and that strict public health protocols are in place.

* A distance of 1 metre should be maintained between individual young people and youth workers in a youth work setting consistent with the advice for schools.

Please make sure to share this update widely with your networks and across the sector.

As ever, if you have any questions or feedback let me know.

Kind regards,

Mary

P.S. Many thanks to those of you who made our Budget 2021 campaign 'members day of action' such a success yesterday online. See #YouthWorkChangesLives ([link removed][UNIQID]) for some of the messages, and go to our campaigner's toolkit ([link removed][UNIQID]) if you'd like to help amplify the message that we need to invest in young people and youth work.
