BPC in the News

What happens when a sitting president becomes incapacitated and is unable to lead the country? BPC's John Fortier gave his analysis on President Trump testing positive for the coronavirus. Also, last week, BPC released a new report tracking federal funding to address the opioid epidemic and providing recommendations on ways to build and sustain a national addiction treatment system. And, BPC President Jason Grumet gave his reaction to the first presidential debate.

BPC's Latest Work

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in one of the most significant public health crises of the last century, but there is also increasing concern about the effect of the pandemic on other health issues, like the opioid use disorder epidemic. In a new report, BPC tracked spending targeted to address the opioid epidemic across the federal government for fiscal year 2019 and provided insight into how funds are being spent at the state and county-level.

The CARES Act provided states with supplemental child care funding to help address the needs of working families and providers through COVID-19, and to support child care access for essential workers. BPC's 50-state map and accompanying analysis identify how each state is supporting child care providers and working parents during the ongoing crisis.

This election year has been tumultuous. There were many reasons to worry that the election administrators in Michigan, a tightly contested presidential battleground state, would be forced to use outdated policies and procedures to count the vote, resulting in long delays in results reporting. Instead, the Michigan legislature has set an example of how bipartisan solutions can lead to more effective solutions in election administration.
