Message about Social Security Trust Funds
Hello John,

We're running out of time! Please, if you haven't yet signed our Emergency Petition to Congress, take a moment to do it right now, so we can demonstrate overwhelming public opposition to President Trump's dangerous payroll tax cut executive order and his plan to "terminate" Social Security payroll taxes. If you have already signed it: Thank you. You've taken the first step in ensuring your views are heard at the highest levels of our government.

Please also consider making a donation in whatever amount you can afford to help support our urgent campaign on Capitol Hill to defeat this unprecedented threat to Social Security!

Sincerely,
Julie Lynch
Member Services Manager

Dear John,

As you know President Trump's executive order on the payroll tax cut is quickly moving forward — already some federal employees and active military personnel have been forced to participate in the deferral. But the payroll tax cut is not a tax break that will benefit most workers. It's an attack on Social Security, period.

That's why we are urging you to get behind U.S. Representative John Larson's (CT-01) bill, the "Save Our Social Security Now Act" (H.R. 8171), that would reverse President Trump's executive order to cut payroll taxes for the rest of the year and ultimately starve the Social Security Trust Fund of much-needed revenue.

So please take a moment and sign our Emergency Petition to Congress today! H.R. 8171 is quickly gaining cosponsors in the House of Representatives. Your signed petition can go a long way in getting this bill over the finish line — before President Trump's payroll tax cut can do real, lasting damage to the Social Security program, and workers and retirees!

Two weeks ago I testified via video before the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security about the importance of passing the "Save Our Social Security Now Act." And I told members that under the worst-case scenario, ending payroll taxes with no reimbursement to the Trust Funds would permanently defund and undermine Social Security.

If we don't stop the President's reckless action to interfere with Social Security's funding stream, it could be the first step toward dismantling this critical and popular program. That's because the President has gone ON THE RECORD time and again that he intends to "terminate" payroll taxes if he's reelected:

August 8: "If victorious on November 3rd, I plan to forgive these taxes and make permanent cuts to the payroll tax."

August 10: "After the election, on the assumption that it would be victorious … we will be ending that tax."

August 12: "At the end of the year, on the assumption that I win, I'm going to terminate the payroll tax."

September 8: "We're looking to do [a payroll tax cut]. We will do it second term."

If payroll taxes are eliminated and there is no replacement revenue source, the Social Security Trust Funds would be depleted by 2023! That's why this poses one of the gravest threats to Social Security we've faced in years!

So please, tell Congress to stop President Trump now! We need to make it clear that American workers and retirees do not want the President tampering with their earned benefits.

We cannot succeed in passing this urgent legislation without the participation of millions of working Americans and retirees, including you, who have a personal stake in the outcome of this debate. So please help the National Committee convince Congress to block the President's dangerous payroll tax cut executive order by signing our petition today!

Sincerely,

Max Richtman
President & CEO
