In 100 years, New York City has had only 4 District Attorneys. That should give you an idea of how consequential this DA race is.
New York is facing a mass incarceration endemic. 443 out of 100,000 people have been put behind bars, disproportionately affecting people of color and on a global scale, New York’s incarceration rates are drastic in comparison.
Tahanie has experienced first hand the destruction that pro-incarceration and anti-immigrant elected officials have caused in communities in Manhattan. When she was just a child, her father was sentenced to 22 years in prison for non-violent crimes. So she understands all too clearly the ways our current system’s lack of support undermines the safety of all New Yorkers.
As one of New York’s most outspoken and respected progressive attorneys, Tahanie has shown that she is committed to the fight for fair treatment for all New Yorkers regardless of their background.
Now more than ever we need to work to elect leaders that will dedicate themselves to fighting for the values and change our communities deserve. This is going to be an incredibly expensive and competitive primary election in the lead up until next June. Tahanie can do it — but she is going to need our support.
