Free Speech For People

John,

*BREAKING NEWS: Free Speech For People, on behalf of Mi Familia Vota and the Arizona Coalition for Change, **has won its case* [ [link removed] ]* before a federal judge in Arizona to extend the state's voter registration deadline, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.* This decision, which extends the deadline to October 23, will allow thousands more voters in Arizona to register in time for the general election.

"[A] core tenet of democracy is to be ruled by a government that represents the population," U.S. District Judge Steven P. Logan wrote in his decision. "Due to COVID-19, a portion of the population is prevented from registering to vote, and thus the integrity of the election is undermined in a different way; that portion is going unrepresented. Extending the deadline would give more time for those voters to register and let their voices be heard through the democratic process."

We are proud to defend the right to vote in the midst of this pandemic and beyond, and our victory in Arizona is just the beginning. Today, we argued our case [ [link removed] ] before the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit challenging unsafe and unequal voting conditions in Texas during the COVID-19 pandemic. Following Governor Abbott's executive order limiting ballot drop boxes to one per county [ [link removed] ], victory in this case is critical.

*Free Speech For People is committed to fighting to defend the right to vote throughout the United States in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, but we cannot do this work without your help. **Can you chip in to help us ensure that every American can vote safely and securely this November?* [ [link removed] ]

Voters should not have to risk their lives, health, or the health of their families in order to vote, and they should not have to choose disenfranchisement in order to protect themselves. During this pandemic, restrictive voter registration deadlines and election policies that create unnecessary risk to the health and safety of voters result in unconstitutional burdens. Officials in Texas and across the country must ensure that everyone has the opportunity to safely register to vote before the November election, that absentee voting is free and fair for all, and that in-person voting is safe and accessible, including for voters and communities that are most vulnerable to serious illness.

*Chip in today to help us defend safe, accessible, and fair elections for all Americans.* [ [link removed] ]
