Hi John,

We’re 27 days out from the election, and ballots are expected to be going out to voters. I wanted to check in with a few updates on my work in Washington and our efforts on the ground in Pennsylvania’s Fifth District.

Here are some quick highlights from D.C.:

• I introduced the Justice for Juveniles Act in response to the investigation of abuse at Glen Mills. This bill, designed to protect the wellbeing of all children, unanimously passed in the House. In Congress, I will never slow down in the fight for our kids.
• After a whistleblower made disturbing allegations that ICE detention centers have been sterilizing immigrant women without their consent, I joined over 170 of my colleagues in demanding an immediate investigation by the Inspector General.
• My team pulled the numbers -- since heading to Congress to advocate for southeast Pennsylvania, I’ve helped bring $1.195 billion in federal funding to our communities. And when we win again in November, I’ll keep up this work.

On the campaign front, my team has been running full speed. We’re calling and texting thousands of voters, sending out direct mail pieces, getting our first TV ads up on the air, and doing everything we can to make sure people have a plan to vote.

One of the areas we’re focusing on when we talk to voters is how to properly send back ballots in the mail. A lower court ruled that all ballots must be placed in a secrecy envelope in order to be counted, which can be confusing for many -- or just a simple step that voters might overlook.

In case you don’t know yet, here’s how you need to return your ballot:

1. Complete your ballot in blue or black ink.
2. Place your ballot inside the secrecy envelope and seal it.
3. Put your secrecy envelope into the larger outer envelope and seal it.
4. Sign and date the voter declaration on the outer envelope
5. Drop your ballot in the mail or a drop box location.

It’s up to all of us to ensure our friends, neighbors, and loved ones have all the information they need to make their voices heard. So make sure you’re having these conversations with people in your circles.

With you on this team, I know we’ll reach every voter we need to make Pennsylvania go blue on November 3.

Thank you for doing your part. And as always, thank you for being part of this team.

Best,

Mary Gay
