"My name is Erica Aly. I am a European-American Muslim, and I was born in Washington DC.
To be an American means to have the freedom to practice my religion in peace and safety, and to pursue my full potential as an American Muslim, living a successful, happy, and beautiful life full of faith with my family and fellow Americans. Being an American Muslim is a privilege and gives me the opportunity to live the beauty of Islam by helping build a better, more just, and more equitable society for all.
Trump's administration has dehumanized Muslim Americans and all religious, immigrant, and ethnic minorities with his unjust and inhumane policies. This last four years has been a nightmare and an embarrassment on so many different levels.
Voting is important to me because this is my right as an American and I don't want to take it for granted. This is my voice and my act for good and positive change.
If you don't vote, you'll suffer the consequences of not doing the right thing.”
