Faith ACTION to end Gender-Based Violence 70- DAY CAMPAIGN LAUNCH

Faith Action to End Gender Based Violence will be virtually launching the 70 Days campaign on October 8th, 2020 at 10h00.
A civil society-based faith initiative has been set up to help mobilise the faith sector to engage in efforts to contribute to the elimination of GBVF in our country. This is an important intervention of a consortium of faith-based organisations concerned by the high levels of GBVF both in society and within faith communities.

It is an effort to witness prophetically to the people of SA and strives to ensure that womxn and children are treated with dignity and respect and that those who perpetrate any form of violence and abuse are held accountable.

Faith Based Organisations (FBOs) have been meeting since June to discuss various solutions to the growing scourge of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The newly formed FBO Coalition will work together to develop plans to support faith communities to become better-equipped to address GBV in their contexts.

Faith Action to End Gender Based Violence is a faith-based collective that strives to see transformed faith communities that are actively addressing the underlying drivers of GBVF internally and in society and contributing meaningfully to the NSP for GBVF through multi-stakeholder messaging and actions to end GBVF.

Faith Action to End Gender Based Violence will be virtually launching the 70 Days campaign on October 8th, 2020 at 10h00. At the launch, members will outline details about the 70 days campaign and its linkage with the country’s GBVF NSP.

It is significant that this will be just a day after the end of the Inquiry of the CRL commission on reported serious abuses at the KwaSizabantu Mission in KwaZulu Natal, and in the midst of the sexual offences case against Pastor Tim Omotoso in the Eastern Cape. These two cases highlight the scope of the work confronting the Faith Based sector as it seeks to make a meaningful contribution to end the scourge of VAW and children in our country.

We urge all those keen to address the challenges of GBVF together to join the launch to learn more about the initiative and to make a contribution.
